If you are new to poker, you might not be familiar with the words like ‘ante’ or ‘blinds’. Don’t worry Poker Indian Group an online poker news India brings an easy guide that will help you. There are different areas:

  • Getting the betting started: Antes and blinds
  • Betting options: Check, call and raise

Before a hand is dealt, players put their cash in the pot. In this way, each player has something at stake in the game even before the first card is dealt. This is done is two different ways:

If a game has an ante, the players contribute a certain amount to the pot before each hand. It is usually a small bet. The most important about antes you need to remember is that a player’s ante doesn’t count as a bet. It is just a way of getting a pot started.

When the players are put in a forced bet, it is called a ‘blind’ before the deal. It is called blind as you haven’t seen a card when you put in this bet. The common practice is to have 2 players to the left of the dealer play the blinds. Immediately the player to the dealer’s left places a smaller bet which is called ‘little blind’. On the other hand, the player two places to the left put in the ‘big blind’. The amounts of the blinds are determined and fixed before the game begins.

In poker, you have 5 actions during a round of betting. Two are for when no one has put cash in the pot and three are when you are facing a bet.

In poker terms, check means to pass. If it’s your turn and there has been no bet or no blind to call, you can check and let the action pass to the next player. If everyone checks then the round is over.

If you don’t want to check, you can simply bet by putting your chips into the pot. The amount differs on what the betting structure is. After a bet is done, the other players have three actions to choose from.

Call means to match the amount with one of your opponents has a bet. Your turn is over unless some player reopens the betting by raising it. If everyone has either called or folded, then the round is over.

If there is a bet, any player left can raise by putting more cash than the original bet. The size of the raise should be at least the size of the original bet. For instance, if some player bets $10, then raise at least $10, then the next player has to call $20.

Folding means just throwing your hand away and waiting for the next hand. There is no such rule of how to set up the betting in the game of poker.
