The World Poker Tour Vietnam hosted at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh running from 14th to 24th March 2019. One of the biggest events to conclude the series was VND 50,000,000 buy-in High Roller that attracted a total of 212 entries across its two starting flights. Korea’s Jaewook Shin emerged as the champion and bagged VND 1,91,38,69,000 (₹56.99 Lakhs) after a 3-way chop.
Team India made a mark at the event with Abhinav Iyer, Nikunj Jhunjhunwala and Kalyan Chakravarthy, making it through on Day 1A. Yasheel Doddanavar, Manoj Pentakota and Nitin Gupta came in as further reinforcements on Day 1B making a total of 6 Indians amidst 54 runners on Day 2. Jhunjhunwala enjoyed the deepest run among all the Indians and finished in 16th place with VND 140,350,000 (₹4.17 Lakhs).
Nitin Gupta fell before Jhunjhunwala in 17th place with VND 140,350,000 (₹4.17 Lakhs), while Abhinav Iyer was in 20th for VND 112,280,000 (₹3.34 Lakhs) making a deep run in the event.
Kalyan Chakravarthy who came into Day 2 as the overall chip leader holding a massive stack of 16,96,000. He just managed to cross the money line at 27th place with VND 69,170,000(₹2.06 Lakhs).
Shin held the lead for a major part of the final table. For a while, Yam Chun had taken the lead, but soon it lost to Shin after his jacks lost to Shin’s aces. After Benjamin Gonzva exited in 4th place, the final three players struck a deal guaranteeing Shin VND 1,613,869,000, Lee VND 1,466,314,000 and Phachara Wongwichit VND 1,430,058,000, and an additional VND 300M to the champion.
Wongwichit was the first one to exit the tournament in third place. The showdown happened between Jaewook Shin and Wai Kiat Lee and the latter finishing as a runner-up.
