This is one question that every newbie poker player asks when they have started out. A player cannot play the game if they don’t know how to win and that’s why poker hands have rankings. When you are learning how to play, it is best to have someone teach the basics including the best hands one can get. This poker blog will prevent any player from an embarrassing situation when they reveal their hand at the end of the round.

There are different hands one can get when playing the game. The best poker hands are the highest ranked cards one can get. Each hand is grouped in a certain category and those are ranked from highest to lowest. So, let’s start with the highest and move downwards.

Royal Flush is the best possible that can be gotten in a standard five card poker game. This hand consists of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10. All of them should be of the same suit. No suit is better than the other, so it doesn’t matter much.  The chances of getting such a hand are very low which is considered the best hand.

The second best hand is the Straight Flush. Any sequence of five cards which have the same suit is considered as the Straight Flush. For example, 2♠,3♠,4♠,5♠,6 ♠-all of the same suit. If two or more people have Straight Flush, then the player with the highest numbered card will win. It applies to other poker hands as well.

Next comes, Four of a Kind hand. This means one must have four cards with the same value as 3,3,3,3 and another card of any value. The Full House comes right next to Four of a kind and has three cards of the same value and two other cards which also have the same value. For example, a hand with 5,5,5 and 2,2.

A fifth poker hand is the Flush and it isn’t as difficult to get. To get this hand, you need five cards having the same suit.  They don’t need to be in sequence. The Straight comes after the Flush. Instead of all cards having the same suit, it consists of the cards being in sequence. The Three of a Kind follows the Straight. In this, you need to have three cards of the same value. Next is Two Pair in which you need to have two different pairs of cards with the same value. If you have only One Pair of cards, then it’s just called the Pair.

Lastly, if you don’t have any of the above-mentioned hands or any pair, look at the strength of your poker cards. This type of hand is called the high card. If there are two players at the showdown who don’t have a pair or better, then the player with the highest cards wins.  Based on this, you can decide if you want to be in the game and raise the stakes or fold your cards.
