Abhinav Iyer did the country proud by taking the VND 8 million GTD Main Event at the Asian Poker Tour Vietnam 2019 for a whopping 2,269,092,000(₹69.51 Lakhs). Its Iyer’s career’s best score till date. He entered the final day with a chip lead of 4,825,000 and his stack crossed 10 million mark with his closest opponent, Te Mai who was with 2.6 million in chips.
The final table lasted almost for three hours. During that time, Iyer eliminated 5 out of 8 finalists including Ming Yang Liu, Sim Kok Wai, Huu Tuan Nguyen, Daiki Hirokawa and Mark Gruendemann. Young Gun Abhinav Iyer never relinquished his chip lead and eventually started the heads-up against Hirokawa with an overwhelming of 5:1 chip advantage. Unfortunately, the Japanese pro was unable to overcome the chip gag that leads to Iyer’s victory.
Many Indians were seen in action at the Main Event with 19 challengers making the cut for Day2 with Manish Lakhotia bagging the biggest stack 108,100 from the Indian camp. Only 6 contenders remained by the end of Day 2. Abhinav Iyer started the Day 3 with a stack of 272,500 and he was the only Indian to make it to the final table. More three Indians also managed to post scores in the event- Eka Vedantham (45th for ₹1.68 Lakhs), Dhaval Mudgal (49th for ₹1.40 Lakhs), and Meherzad Munsaf (58th for ₹1.16 Lakhs).
