Almost everyone is familiar with the term Texas Hold’em poker and many think that this is the only type that exists. But the truth is there are a plethora of different versions of poker games.  Some are well known and played all over the world and some are less common.  The popular ones are offered on online poker sites.

  1. Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em is the most popular poker game of all.  It is a great way for the beginners to start playing poker. In the game, each player is given two private hole cards and they need to decide if their cards can help them to make the winning five card hand. There are 5 community cards, 3 are revealed in the Flop round and others in the subsequent rounds. After the compulsory bets have been placed, players either match the bet amount with other players or betting themselves.

  1. Omaha Poker

If you are familiar with Texas Hold’em, you should not have any problem playing Omaha poker.  Here, the players are dealt with four hole cards and use two of them to make a winning hand. Omaha is played in a limit and the common format is Omaha 8 or better. It splits the pot between the best high hand and the low hand.

  1. 2-7 Triple Draw

It is recommended for the players who are well versed with the game and have been playing for a while.  Here, each player aims to make the lowest possible five-card hand as the ranking of the hands is reversed. The players can choose the cards to be replaced by the dealer as well. Even if it is a draw third time after the last round, the dealer decides the order of betting and discarding cards. Maximum of 6 players can play this game which is Texas Hold’em flipped on its head.

  1. 7-Card  Stud

7-card stud poker was popular before Texas Hold’em exploded. This is played between 2 to 8 players. There is neither flop round and nor community cards are dealt.  The players place nominal bets called ante and are dealt with two cards face down and one face up and the betting commences. If the player with the lowest value card initiate betting continues in fixed increment for the next 4 rounds. The player with the best 5-card hand wins the game.

  1. Chinese Poker

It was invented 7 years ago and it has its origins in the classic Chinese poker. It is played with a maximum of four players. It is played for points and after the rounds are complete, the players arrange their 13 cards into 3 hands- top, middle and bottom. There is a special rule called ‘fantasyland’ where players with two Queens or better, the top hand is dealt all the 13 cards at once.
